Liberals Release Election Manifesto September 2009
We, the Alexandrian Liberal Party, are standing on a platform of the following beliefs: -Belief in the Protection and Enhancement of Civil Rights. -Belief in a Free and Fair market. -Belief in aiding the poor and the sick. -Belief in a foreign policy that uses force as a last resort, but will defend Alexandria from aggression, and a policy that spreads Alexandrian ideals across the Micronational World. How are we going to achieve these beliefs when re-elected to Government? We will achieve the protection and enhancement of Civil Rights by introducing an implementation strategy for an independent Chief Prosecutor of the Empire designed to prosecute Civil Rights infringements regardless of who committed them. We will consult with all political parties what they believe the way forward is with our economy and then implement agreed recommendations. We will aid the poor and sick by establishing a system of poor relief all across the Empire and also by introducing legislation designed to give better access for all those who suffer from illness to the medical care they require. Lastly, we will achieve our Foreign Policy goals through multi-lateral talks with other Micronations designed to improve cooperation between us and our allies on major issues of concern. We will keep our Imperial Armed Forces at their current strength ready to deploy to the far corners of the world whenever needed to protect Liberty. We will take active stances on many issues overseas and make sure Alexandria's voice is once again heard and noted around Micras. -------------------- Jean Carmicheal Duke of Evreaux, Minister of War, Former Three Times First Consul, Former Leader of the Alexandrian Liberal Party, Former Lord Chief Justice, Former Member of Parliament for Ibelin, |

Carlos Petrassi, MP, appeared in front of reporters today outside the Palace of the Tuileries to respond to the recent disagreements over parliamentary reform:
"Thank you for coming, ladies and gentlemen. I wanted to address today some of furor over the discussions some members of the Alexandrian Liberal Party have been taking part in over the past few days. I would like to make clear that this does not signify a split in the Liberal Party, nor should it somehow be construed by the media as calling into question confidence in the current government. I, too, ask the Genevan Arrow to correct its remarks, and to live up to the standards of journalistic integrity. As for this alleged split, personally I remain committed to civil liberties, a fair and free economy, a safety-net for those who are unable to partake in the benefits of the market, a fair policy towards our colonial possessions, and reform of the imperial government, as do all members of the Liberal Party. I should think a debate over parliamentary rules of order is routine business not the stuff of political division and strife. Now, there is the issue, which Mdme. Fernandez, Acting Leader of the Conservative Party, has brought up, that is, the alleged attempt by the Liberal Party to discredit or tear down the Speaker of the Imperial Parliament, my fellow Liberal collegue M. Ziegler. This is not the case, and I should think my friend Eva would be above such insinuations and the deliberate attempt to create political drama and divide where none exists. The comments I have made were not made out of malice, but to ensure that any person, no matter what political affiliation or political standing, is held to account to ensure that the process of governing is followed to the letter of the law. In none of the frank and vigorous discussion on parliamentary reform did any members of the Liberal Party questions M. Ziegler's ability to lead the Imperial Parliament, nor to tear down what he has already accomplished. If the Honorable Member from Rio Grande had read any of the statements, my concerns were based upon actual deeds done and words spoken in the Imperial Parliament. Facts, not fiction. I raised concerns that clearly others are themselves worried about in a direct and open manner; I remind my Conservative friends that that is the nature of governing, not political grandstanding as some would take part in. To quote a great Englishman, "Me thinks the lady doth protest too much." On the contrary, M. Fernandez and I seem to be in agreement on one point: we wish to see Alexandria as Alexandria, not as a British clone. I wish to see Alexandria live up to its Napoleonic roots. The seal we see on our official documents bears the great imperial eagle of the great Napoleon. I would like to see that legacy remain strong in our government, in our society, and in our very existence. I wish to ensure the uniquely Alexandrian way of doing things enshrined in every facet of this nation, beginning with the proud core of the nation, the Imperial Parliament. In reality, I am a hot-blooded Italian-Alexandrian man. I do not accuse M. Ziegler or attempting to create a Westminster clone. But, I see the steady march towards Angloism in our current path. We can create an efficient, professional, and simple process of lawmaking without the going too far into the annals of great Albion. I support reform as M. Ziegler does, I honor his service to Alexandria and to the Imperial Parliament, and I consider him an honorable friend and collegue. But I have pursued my concerns out of a single-minded goal of ensuring that whatever path we choose to follow, that is will be faithful to the theme and basis for this Empire. And I will continue to do so no matter where the political winds of the day shall blow. Thank you for coming, and God bless the Empire of the Alexandrians." -------------------- Carlos Petrassi Member of Parliament for Ibelin Secretary of State for the Colonies and Overseas Territories |
